Richburg earns GLVC honors
Richburg and Quincy’s Walker Co-Players of the Week
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana freshman point guard Carl Richburg (Mason, Ohio) and Quincy University’s sophomore guard Ryan Walker were named GLVC co-Players of the Week for their efforts last week. This is the first Player of the Week honor for Richburg.
Richburg averaged 19.0 points and hit all 17 of his free throw attempts in a road sweep of Northern Kentucky University and the University of Indianapolis to earn the weekly conference honor. The two triumphs helped vault the Screaming Eagles into first place in the GLVC standings at 12-2 in league play.
Richburg began the week with a team-high 20 points in an 80-67 victory at NKU. He connected on 10-of-10 free throws in that game, including eight straight in the final 4:25 of the game to seal the victory. The 5-9 point guard came back to toss in a team-leading 18 points with four assists and four rebounds as USI won its seventh straight game, 80-77, at Indianapolis. Richburg also hit 7-of-7 from the free throw line his final two with under 25 seconds remaining to seal the triumph.
For the season, Richburg ranks third on the team in scoring with 10.6 ppg and first on the team with 91 assists (4.3 per game). He also ranks first on the squad by hitting 44.6 percent from beyond the three-point arc (33-74) and third at the charity strip by sinking 86.5 percent of his free throw attempts (45-52).
The Eagles play their final two regular season home games this week, hosting the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Lewis University Saturday at 3:15 p.m. The USI-Lewis GLVC doubleheader is Homecoming and Senior Day for the Eagles.
