HOT-SHOOTING USI DEFEATS UM-ST. LOUIS, 93-63

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana men's basketball senior forward/center Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) scored 13 of his 17 points in the first half as top-seeded USI posted a 93-63 win over eighth-seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis in the quarterfinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Roberts Stadium.

Six Southern Indiana players scored in double figures as the Screaming Eagles improved to 24-4. Southern Indiana shot 77.3 percent from the field in the first half to build a 43-27 lead at the break. Holbrook was 5-for-5 from the field in the first half and connected on a pair of 3-pointers as Southern Indiana defeated Missouri-St. Louis (9-19) for the third time this season.

The Screaming Eagles used a 21-11 run to forge a 29-16 lead on a 3-pointer by freshman guard Carl Richburg (Mason, Ohio) with 8:14 left in the first half. Richburg made all three of his 3-point attempts in the first half and finished with 18 points.

Southern Indiana sealed the win with a 12-0 run early in the second half. The Screaming Eagles led by as many as 35 points and coasted to the victory.

USI senior guard Cris Brunson added 14 points for Southern Indiana, while teammates junior guard David Bryant(Louisville, Kentucky) had 13 points senior center Reque Newsome (St. Petersburg, Florida) added 11 points and junior forward Chris Thompson dropped in 10 points. The Screaming Eagles finished at 64.3 percent shooting from the field and won the rebounding battle by a 35-21 margin.

USI junior guard Danny Gibson led Southern Indiana with nine assists, and Richburg added five assists.

Jonathan Griffin led Missouri-St. Louis with 17 points. The Rivermen were held to 40.7 percent shooting from the field.

Southern Indiana, ranked No. 2 in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region poll, will play the winner of fourth-seeded Quincy University/fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s College at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the GLVC semifinals.
