Holbrook named to Daktronic All-Region team
First Eagle to named first team All-Region since 1996
EVANSVILLE, Ind. Ė University of Southern Indiana senior forward/center Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) was named to the Daktronicís first team All-Great Lakes Region team in a vote of the region sports information directors. Holbrook is the first USI menís basketball player to be named to the first team All-Region since former All-Americans Stan Gouard and Chad Gilbert were named to the NABC team in 1996.
Holbrook has led the Screaming Eagles to a 26-4 overall record and a number four national ranking by averaging a team-high 16.3 ppg and shooting 63.6 percent from the field (159-250). He also ranks second on the team in rebounding (6.5 rpg).
The senior communications major was named the GLVC Tournament Most Outstanding Player last weekend when the Eagles won their first-ever league tournament crown. He averaged 19.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg, while shooting 75.9 percent from the field (22-29) and a perfect six-of-six from three-point range.
Holbrook was joined on the first team by GLVC opponent David Logan, a senior guard at the University of Indianapolis, who was named the Great Lakes Region Player of the Year. Selected from the GLIAC were Carlton Epps, a senior guard at Ferris State University Josh Buettner, a senior forward at Michigan Tech University and Geoff Husted, a senior center at Gannon University.
Holbrook and Husted will square off Saturday when USI and Gannon face-off in the first round of the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional at The University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.
