USI to host UI-Springfield Saturday evening
EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team plays the fourth game of a five-game homestand when it hosts the University of Illinois-Springfield Saturday at the Physical Activities Center. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
The Screaming Eagles (6-0) are perfect so far in 2006-07 and the homestand. USI has outscored its opponents 30.2 points per game (ppg) during the season and 36 points in the first three games of the homestand.
The Eagles have been red-hot from the field during the homestand, hitting 59.6 percent from the field (118-198). They also have held the opponents to 41.0 percent (68-166) from the field.
Leading the Eagles to start the season and during the homestand is senior guard Melvin Hall (Evansville, Indiana). Hall is posting 21.0 ppg during the first three games of the homestand and 18.8 ppg overall.
Senior center Rashard Sullivan (Miami, Floria) follows Hall in the scoring column with 18.0 ppg during the homestand and 15.7 ppg through the first six games of campaign.
On the boards, senior forward Marty Wise (New Orleans, Louisiana) tops the charts with 7.5 per game. Wise also is averaging 11.5 ppg overall.
The Prairie Stars of UIS (6-2) come to Evansville after defeating Trinity International University, 98-71, Wednesday. Of UIS's two losses, one was a 10-point loss to Butler University, 62-52. Senior guard Eddie Smith lead the Stars with 22,5 ppg and 5.3 rpg.
USI has won both meeting with UIS by identical scores, 116-72, in 2002-03 and 2003-04.
The Eagles conclude the five-game homestand December 2 when they open the GLVC schedule against Kentucky Wesleyan College. The game will be the Panthers first appearance at the PAC since the 2004-05 season.
