Pimble signs with USI men's basketball
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team announced the signing of 6-foot-5 forward Anthony Pimble from Ventura Community College in Ventura, California. Pimble is the third player to sign with USI and Head Coach Rick Herdes this year, the first this spring.
The native of Bronx, New York, was the Western State Conference North Division Most Outstanding Player. He also averaged 15.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.1 steals, and 1.8 assists per game. The Ventura Pirates finished the year 26-7 overall, advancing to the California Junior College state semifinals.
Prior to attending Ventura, Pimble attended Bronx Regional High School. He also won the Rucker Park Slam Dunk Contest that is a part of the Entertainer's Basketball Classic, played at the legendary Rucker Park Playground in Harlem, New York.
"Anthony will bring an exciting presence to our basketball team this year," said Herdes. "He is quick to the bucket and has the type of jumping ability that will remind fans of Stan Gouard."
Pimble joins forward Nate Schumacher (Evansville, Indiana) and guard/forward Nick Duncheon (Montgomery, Indiana) in signing with Eagles for 2007-08. Schumacher and Duncheon signed with the Eagles during the fall.
The Screaming Eagles, who completed last year with a 29-6 record and a reached 25-or-more wins for the fifth straight year, lose six players from last year's squad. Included are honorable mention All-American and first team All-GLVC Rashard Sullivan and second team All-GLVC and GLVC Tournament Most Outstanding Player Melvin Hall.
