Cloud transfers to USI
EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team announced the transfer of sophomore guard Darren Cloud (Evansville, Indiana) for the 2007-08 season. Cloud joins a Screaming Eagles squad that has 11 newcomers on the roster as they countdown to the start of practice on October 15.
Cloud comes back to Evansville after spending a year at the University of South Alabama in 2006-07 and Wabash Valley Junior College in 2005-06.
Last season at South Alabama, Cloud averaged 0.5 points and 0.5 rebounds per game in 20 appearances for the Jaguars. He had a season-best three points in games against the University of California-Irvine, the University of West Florida, and the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
During his season at Wabash Valley, Cloud played in four games before suffering a season-ending injury and being granted a medical redshirt season. He averaged 5.8 ppg and 1.8 rpg in those four games prior to the injury.
Cloud was the Evansville Courier and Press Metro Player of the Year and an All-State honoree, while averaging 23.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per contest as a senior at Reitz High School (Evansville, Indiana). He also was a two-time All-Conference and All-City selection for the Panthers.
He also was a Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association All-Star in 2005, as well as a North/South All-Star and an Indiana All-Star.
"It is always great to welcome back to Evansville a player of Darren's (Clouds) qualities," said USI Head Coach Rick Herdes. "He has a good range on his jump shot and a good overall game. Darren also gives us experienced depth at the guard positions."
