USI starts four-game homestand this weekend
Eagles host Ohio Valley University at 3:15 p.m. Saturday
Men's Basketball Game Notes
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team starts the second of three four-game homestands Saturday when it hosts the Ohio Valley University. Game time Saturday is 3:15 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center.
In addition to Ohio Valley, this homestand includes Tiffin University on December 15 Ferris State University on December 19 and Michigan Tech University on December 30.
The Screaming Eagles (3-2) are coming off an exciting two-point road victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College in the 2007-08 "Battle for the Bridge" game. USI senior forward Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio) gave the Eagles a 79-77 margin of victory with a lay-up with 2.6 seconds to play.
Plummer led the way for USI with 19 points, 14 coming in the second half. He also leads the Eagles for the season with 20.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per season.
USI junior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) follows Plummer in the scoring column this season with 15.6 points per game, while sophomore guard Darren Cloud (Evansville, Indiana) is third on the team with 14.6 points per contest.
Newcomer Josh Huebner (Evansville, Indiana), a junior guard, scored 13 points in his debut at KWC, while senior guard Tyson Schnitker (Robinson, Illinois) rounds out the double-figure scorers with 10.0 per game.
Schnitker, who broke the big toe of his right foot, was upgraded to questionable for Saturday's contest.
Saturday will mark the first meeting between the Eagles and the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley. Ohio Valley (1-3) has lost three in a row since winning its season opener and hosts Indiana University of Pennsylvania Thursday evening before playing USI.
The Fighting Scots senior center Chris Leborious leads the team with 12.8 points and six rebounds per game. Senior guard Stephen Camberis follows with 11.3 points, while senior guard Omar Campbell and junior forward Harris Danesi conclude the double-figure scorers with 10.8 and 10.3 points per contest, respectively.
Bowman leaves the team
The USI men's basketball announced today that junior guard/forward Shaun Bowman (Brooklyn, New York) has decided to leave the team. "Shaun has been hurt since the preseason and is taking the rest of the year off to get healthy," said USI Head Coach Rick Herdes. "We wish Shaun the best in his future endeavors."
Bowman suffered an injury to his right knee just after the start of practice and required surgery. He has not been able to practice with the team since the injury.
