USI men's basketball adds two players
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team announced the addition of junior forward Dexter Powell (Rome, Georgia) and freshman guard Rodney Davis (Cadiz, Kentucky) for the remainder of the 2007-08 campaign.
Powell transfers to USI from Middle Tennessee State University. He signed with MTSU after spending the last two seasons at Wabash Valley Junior College where he averaged 14.7 points and seven rebounds per game.
"Dexter gives us added depth in the post," said USI Head Coach Rick Herdes. "He is big and strong on the inside and will make for a great one-two punch with Norman Plummer."
Davis makes the move to USI from Murray State University, where he enrolled after graduating from Trigg County High School (Cadiz, Kentucky). He averaged 24.5 points per game as a senior on the way to being named All-District and All-Region. Davis also helped the Wildcats to three District championships.
"USI recruited Rodney out of high school and is very happy to have him join our program," said Herdes. "Rodney is very quick and has good range from the outside. USI fans will be excited to watch this young man for the next four years."
The new Eagles are awaiting certification from the GLVC. Conference rules stipulate that all Division I transfers must be certified by the GLVC office before competing.
USI resumes action Wednesday night against Ferris State University. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
