Russ brings scoring and size to the USI post
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team announced the signing of Brandon Russ, a 6-foot-8 forward, to a national letter of intent for the 2008-09 season.
Russ transfers to USI from St. Catherine College where he was a first team All-Region and first team All-Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association. He also earned All-State and All-Division honors last season.
The native of Cincinnati, Ohio, averaged 16.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game for the Patriots, who were 22-6 overall and led the Western Division of the TJCCAA with an 11-5 record. Russ' 16.1 scoring average was 15th in the TJCCAA.
"Brandon adds the low post scoring that will be needed for next year's team to be successful, " said USI Head Coach Rick Herdes. "He has great hands and knows what to do with the ball when he catches it. Brandon can be a force inside and really understands how to use his body."
The USI men's basketball team is coming off its 16th straight winning season that has included 15 20-win seasons and 14 NCAA Division II Tournament appearances. The Screaming Eagles also have won 27-or-more games four times in the last five seasons and included three GLVC West Division and two GLVC Tournament crowns.
