Eagles soar past Urbana, 93-54

EVANSVILLE, Ind.– The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team opened the 2008-09 home schedule with a 93-54 win over Urbana University Saturday night at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 2-2 overall, while Urbana opens the season, 0-1.
After the Blue Knights jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, the rest of the evening belonged to the Screaming Eagles. USI took its first lead of the game with a 7-0 burst and then with the score tied, 9-9, went on a 10-0 run to move out in front for good.
The Eagles would lead by as many as 18 points twice during the first half, including the 45-27 halftime margin.
USI put the game away in the second half with a strong defensive stand, holding Urbana to just three points in the first 10 minutes of the final half. The Eagles would go on to outscore the Blue Knights in the second 20 minutes, 48-27, and end the game with a 93-54 advantage.

Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio) followed with 12 points. Senior guard

Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points each.

Brandon Carr (Baltimore, Maryland) tied for the team lead on the boards with six rebounds each. Russ and Bradshaw also had three blocks and two blocks, respectively.
The Eagles continue a six-game homestand Tuesday when they host Harris-Stowe State University for a 7:30 p.m.
