Eagles complete GLVC road trip sweep
Southern Indiana (9-2, 2-0 GLVC) 83, Wisconsin-Parkside (2-6, 0-2 GLVC): 58
– The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team completed its first conference road trip of the year with a sweep by defeating the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 83-58, Saturday afternoon in Kenosha, Wisconsin. USI wins its eighth in a row to take its record to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the GLVC, while UW-Parkside falls to 2-6 overall, 0-2 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles methodically built a seven-point halftime lead, 40-33, in the opening 20 minutes. Senior forward Anthony Pimble
(Bronx, New York) led the way with 11 first half points, while sophomore guard Kevin Gant
(Indianapolis, Indiana) dropped in seven points.
In the second half, the Rangers tried to catch the Eagles by closing the margin to three points, 42-39. USI responded with a 13-0 run to take command of the contest and never looked back. The 83-58 final would end up being USI's largest margin of the game.
Individually, Pimble led five players to score in double figures with 17 points. The senior forward has posted double figures on the scoreboard in each of the last nine games.
USI's Cincinnati connection of junior forwards Brandon Russ
(Cincinnati, Ohio) and Tyrone Bradshaw
(Cincinnati, Ohio) followed Pimble with 14 points and 13 points, respectively. Gant finished the contest with a season-best 11 points, while junior forward/center Jeron Lewis
(Ft. Wayne, Indiana) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
The Eagles also continued to do the job defensively, making 11 steals and blocking five shots. Lewis led the way with a team-high three blocks, while Bradshaw swatted two shots away. Gant tied a second season-high with a team-best three steals.
USI also held UW-Parkside's senior forward LaVontay Fenderson, who entered the game with GLVC-best 25 points per game average, to 14 points.
The Eagles return to the Physical Activities Center next week to begin their second six-game homestand of the season. The homestand starts December 13 when USI hosts Temple Baptist College for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
