Russ named GLVC Player of the Week

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana junior forward
Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio) is the GLVC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Russ came off the bench to lead the Screaming Eagles to two GLVC road victories last week in tipping off the 2008-09 conference schedule.
In the two contests, Russ averaged 14.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting at an 80 percent clip from the field (12-15).
USI opened GLVC action by defeating Lewis University on the road last Thursday, 73-67, as Russ poured in 15 points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. He was nearly perfect from the field, converting 7-of-9 field goal attempts. Russ also added a blocked shot and steal in the contest.
On Saturday, the Eagles completed the weekend sweep with an 83-58 triumph at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Russ posted 14 points in the victory and finished the game 5-of-6 from the field. He also added an assist and a rebound in the win.
For the season, Russ is second on the team with 13.3 points per contest and has shot 68.3 percent from the field which ranks him third in the league. He also has contributed 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.
The Eagles, who have won eight in a row, will begin this week's action with a 9-2 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the GLVC. USI is idle until it starts a six-game homestand Saturday when Temple Baptist College comes to the Physical Activities Center for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
