Smith named GLVC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS –University of Southern Indiana's
Jamar Smith is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The junior guard led his team to a pair of conference wins this past week.
Smith kept the Screaming Eagles in the running for the top seed in the GLVC West. On Thursday, he opened up with 21 points to defeat the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 81-54. The junior guard also added four assists and three rebounds against the Tritons.
The native of Peoria, Illinois, finished the week with a game-high 29 points, tying his season best in the win over Missouri University of Science & Technology, 94-73. Smith went 10-of-15 from the field, five-of-eight from beyond the arc, and pulled down nine rebounds.
For the week, Smith averaged 25.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. He also has had seven games this year with five-or-more three-point field goals.
USI (23-5, 11-3 GLVC), which leads the conference in scoring offense with 86.3 points per game, will be on the road this week to face Drury and Rockhurst.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Saint Joseph's Andrew Helmer, Bellarmine's Chartrael Hall, Drury's Dusty Allen, and Lewis' Dennis Thomas.
