Jamar Smith (Peoria, Illinois) was named to the Daktronics All-Midwest Region second team by the region's sports information directors. The regional award is the first for Smith this season.
Smith leads the Screaming Eagles in scoring with 18.5 points per game and was the top three-point shooter in GLVC action with 3.9 long range field goals per game at a proficiency of 53.6 percent (59-110). He scored a season-best 29 points twice (versus Drury University and Missouri University of Science and Technology) and dropped in 20-or-more points in seven of his 19 games this season.
The first team All-GLVC performer was named to the GLVC All-Tournament team last weekend after averaging 17 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He also hit seven three-point field goals in two tournament games for the Eagles.
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Josh Bostic, a senior forward at the University of Findlay, was named the Daktronics Midwest Region Player of the Year. The GLVC, including Smith, had six players of the 10 players on the first and second teams (three on first team and three on the second team).
Smith leads the Eagles into the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Friday against Rockhurst University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (CDT).
