The University of Southern Indiana menís basketball team used a 30-9 run midway through the first half to put Bellarmine University away, 116-94, Saturday night at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 15-5 overall and 9-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Bellarmine is 8-11, 5-8 GLVC.
The Knight jumped out to an early 18-10 lead before the Eagles exploded on the run which made it 40-27 with 6:55 to play in the half. USI boosted the lead to as many as 22 points at 62-40 and led at halftime 65-47. The Eagles dominated the second half, building leads of 30 or more points. USIís biggest lead was 32 points, 91-59, with 12:01 to play.
With the 116-point performance, USI has won its last 33 contests when going over the century mark.
USI had five players in double figures, led by senior center Kevin Robinson (Largo, Maryland) with 20 points and five blocks off the bench. Robinson was followed by senior center Ronnie Griffin (Louisville, Kentucky) with 19 points and seven rebounds freshman guard Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana), 18 points sophomore forward Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois), 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds and senior guard Matt Carter (Cannelton, Indiana), 15 points off the bench.
The 20 points by Robinson was a career-best, while Carterís 15 points was a season high.
USI will finish the four-game homestand next week when it hosts Olivet Nazarene University Thursday, January 31, for a non-conference game and the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday, February 2, for a GLVC match-up and Homecoming. Both the ONU and the UMSL games at the PAC will start at 7:30 p.m.
