USI track and field grabs three top 10 finishes at Smith-Barney Inv.
Results
The University of Southern Indiana track and field team took home three top 10 finishes Saturday at the Smith-Barney Invitational in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was the second meet the Screaming Eagles have competed in this season.
Freshman sprinter/high jumper Abby Boberg (Bicknell, Indiana) posted her second NCAA II provisional qualifying time in as many weeks with her 5’06.00” mark in the high jump. The jump placed her in a tie for second and broke USI’s school-record, which she set with her 5’05.75” jump last weekend.
Men’s distance runner Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) finished sixth in the mile with a time of 4:22.79. Schwartz also ran the 1,200-meter leg in the men’s distance medley relay team, which finished third with a time of 10:47.02.
The men’s squad also had a first Saturday as freshman Robert Rydzinski (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) became the first USI competitor to compete in the shot put. Rydzinski finished 29th with a throw of 37’04.00”.
USI will travel to Greencastle, Indiana, this Saturday, February 8, to compete in the Tiger Invitational. It will be the Eagles’ last tune-up before the Cannon IV Classic, which takes place February 14-15.
