Eagles get four national qualifiers

The University of Southern Indiana outdoor track and field team had four runners post NCAA II provisional qualifying times Saturday at the Washington University Invitational in St. Louis, Missouri. The Screaming Eagles also had two records fall on the women’s side.
Senior Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana) and freshman Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) both posted provisional qualifying times. Farmer qualified in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:39.23, less than a second away from a school-record time. She finished first in the 800 meters with a school-record time of 2:17.55.
Cooksey shattered USI’s oldest standing outdoor school-record with her provisional-qualifying time of 17:10.75 in the 5,000 meters. The time placed her second in the event.
Junior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) and sophomore Will Siemers (Bensenville, Indiana) finished first and third, respectively, in the 5,000 meters. Both posted provisional qualifying times with Schwartz running the race in 14:32.93 and Siemers running the race in 14:40.96. The times were personal bests for both runners.
Rounding out USI’s top five finishers Saturday was freshman men’s sprinter Brad Orndorff (Greenfield, Indiana). Orndorff finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a season-best time of :15.57.
The Screaming Eagles will travel to Marion, Indiana, this Saturday, April 12, to compete in the Little State Championships.
