USI’s Schneider breezes to GLVC title in 10k,
Thurner picks up All-GLVC honors in 3,000-meter steeplechase

University of Southern Indiana sophomore track and field runner Casey Schneider (New Salisbury, Indiana) ran her fastest time of the outdoor season (37:19.87) to run away with the GLVC championship in the 10,000 meters Thursday evening in Edwardsville, Illinois.
After the first day and seven scored events, the Screaming Eagles’ women’s squad sits in sixth place with 13 points.
Junior Mark Thurner (Hebron, Indiana) highlighted the afternoon for the men’s squad as he earned All-GLVC honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Thurner finished second in the event with a time of 9:18.27.
Freshman Rob Garwood (Columbus, Indiana) and sophomore Brad Orndorff (Greenfield, Indiana) also turned out solid performances for the Eagles. Garwood finished third in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:41.67, less than three seconds away from second place and a All-GLVC award. Orndorff qualified for the finals in the 110-meter hurdles with the third fastest time of :15.63.
After day one and six scored events, the men’s squad is in fifth place with 22 points. The final day of the GLVC Championships is slated for Friday in Edwardsville.
