USI men’s cross country lands D-I transfer
The University of Southern Indiana men’s cross country/track and field team announced that sophomore distance runner Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) has committed to USI for the 2003-04 season.
“Jesse will fit in very well with our guys,” Screaming Eagles head coach Mike Hillyard said. “He has the kind of character and leadership qualities that help to make a team stronger.”
A transfer from Ball State University, Davis was BSU’s top runner at the 2002 Mid-American Conference Championships, finishing 29th with an 8k time of 25:25.30. During the 2003 indoor track and field season, he posted a 3,000-meter time of 8:35.44 and a 5,000-meter time of 15:26.92. He also earned All-MAC honors as a member of BSU’s distance medley relay team.
During the outdoor season, Davis ran the 5,000 meters in 15:07.41. He also posted a top 1,500-meter time of 3:59.35. A graduate of Bloomington South High School, Davis was a member of BSHS’s 1999 state championship and IHSAA record-setting 4x800-meter relay team.
“In terms of talent, he is as good as anyone on our team, which means that he is a good as anyone in the GLVC,” Hillyard stated. “He is a high quality student-athlete, and we are very fortunate to have him.”
