The University of Southern Indiana men’s and women’s cross country teams were back in action Friday afternoon, this time competing in the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, North Carolina. The Screaming Eagles had two men’s squads and two women’s squads compete, with one running in the Small College competition and the other taking part in the University Division.
Junior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) finished second in the men’s University Division competition. Schwartz finished the 8k race in 26:50.7, just four seconds off the winning time.

The women’s squad finished third in the University Division behind the efforts of senior Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana) and sophomore Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana). Farmer finished sixth with a 5k time of 19:12.4 while Cooksey finished seventh with a time of 19:17.7.
