The University of Southern Indiana men’s cross country team finished fourth Saturday at the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Championships in Allendale, Michigan behind the All-Region performance from junior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois). Schwartz finished sixth with a 10k time of 31:55.1.
Sophomore Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) ran the 10k course in 32:21.4 and finished 16th.
Despite the solid performance, the USI men needed to finish in the top two on Saturday to advance to nationals. Schwartz also just missed the cut-off for individual qualifiers.
Host Grand Valley State University took home the team championship, while Wayne State University’s Nick Allen won the individual title.
The USI women, which finished third, qualified for nationals behind the All-Region performances of senior Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana), junior Casey Schneider (New Salisbury, Indiana), and sophomore Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana).
The Screaming Eagles will compete at the NCAA II National Championships in Cary, North Carolina, Saturday, November 22.
