USI picks up two championships at Washington Invite

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field team had two competitors win titles Saturday at the Washington University Invitational.
Sophomore Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) won the 5,000 meters with an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of 16:55.88, while freshman Natalie Clark (Newburgh, Indiana) set a school record with a 400-meter winning time of :57.77. Clark is the first competitor in USI history to place first in the 400 meters.
Senior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) and junior Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) each recorded second place finishes to lead the USI men’s squad. Schwartz ran the 5,000 meters in 14:59.01, while Davis ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:31.90.
The Screaming Eagles will return to action next Friday and Saturday as they compete in the Little State Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana.
