Cooksey finishes eighth at Mt. SAC,
Schwartz finishes 25th
University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field sophomore runner Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) ran the 5,000 meters in a blistering 16:46.79 to finish eighth at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California.
Cooksey ranks first in the NCAA II in the 1,500 meters, third in the 5,000 meters, and 10th in the 800 meters.
Her time at Mt. SAC lifted is just 6.79 seconds away from an NCAA II automatic qualifying time.
USI men’s senior runner Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) finished 25th in the 5,000 meters. Schwartz ran the event in 14:59.51, just 9.51 seconds away from an NCAA II provisional qualifying time.
The Screaming Eagles, which cancelled their trip to the Commodore Invitational this weekend, will return to action this Friday and Saturday, April 23-24. USI will run a split squad, with competitors competing at the Hillsdale Gina Relays Friday and Saturday and other competitors competing at the University of Louisville Cardinal Open on Friday.
