Cooksey wins Little State title at Indiana Intercollegiate,
Women finish second men third

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.—Junior Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) finished first to lead the University of Southern Indiana women’s cross country team to a second-place finish in the Little State competition of the Indiana Intercollegiate Friday night at Purdue University’s Varsity Cross Country Course.
Cooksey, who finished the 5k course in 18 minutes, seven seconds, finished fifth in the overall competition, while the women’s squad was eighth out of 25 teams. Sophomore Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) was seventh in the Little State competition and 30th overall with a time of 19 minutes, 32 seconds.
Led by senior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) and junior Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana), the men’s squad finished third in the Little State competition and seventh in the overall competition.
Both Schwartz and Davis finished with a time of 26 minutes, 40 seconds, with Schwartz edging Davis for second in the Little State competition and 13th overall. Davis was third in the Little State competition and 15th overall.
The Screaming Eagles will host the Stegemoller Classic September 25 at the USI Cross Country Course. The men’s 8k race will begin at 9:45 a.m., while the women’s 6k race will start at 10:30 a.m.
