Cooksey wins UE Invitational

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Junior Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) finished first Saturday to lead the University of Southern Indiana women’s cross country team to a third-place showing at the University of Evansville Invitational.
Cooksey paced the field with a 5k time of 17 minutes, 12.86 seconds as the Screaming Eagles defeated Lincoln Memorial University in the small college competition.
Sophomore Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) finished the race in 17 minutes, 59.43 seconds to finish seventh overall and second in the small college division.
Junior Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) finished fourth to lead the men’s squad to a second-place showing in the overall competition and a first-place finish in the small college competition. Davis finished the 8k race in 25 minutes, 29.91 seconds, good enough for first in the small college competition.
Senior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) finished the race in 25 minutes, 30.97 seconds to finish fifth overall and second in the small college division.
USI will attempt to defend its GLVC titles next Saturday when the Eagles compete at the GLVC championships in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
