Eagle runners finish second,
Cooksey wins women’s title

ALEXANDRIA, Ky.—The University of Southern Indiana men’s and women’s cross country teams each finished second Saturday at the GLVC Championships at A.J. Jolly Park in Alexandria, Kentucky.
Lewis University edged the men’s squad by two points, while the University of Wisconsin-Parkside scored a 13-point victory over the women’s squad.
Junior women’s runner Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) won the individual title and was named the GLVC Female Runner of the Year after setting a school-record with her 6k time of 21 minutes, 32.90 seconds.
Sophomore Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) finished sixth and joined Cooksey on the All-GLVC team after crossing the finish line with a time of 22 minutes, 51.69 seconds.
Junior Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) finished second with an 8k time of 25 minutes, 46.22 seconds, to lead the men’s squad. Senior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) was fourth with a time of 25 minutes, 50.49 seconds. Both earned All-GLVC honors.
The Screaming Eagles will have two weeks off before vying for a spot at the National Championships when they compete at the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Championships in Edwardsville, Illinois, November 6.
