Women's Results
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—University of Southern Indiana junior Heather Cooksey’s (Brownsburg, Indiana) first-place performance was not enough to advance the women’s cross country team out of the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Saturday as the Screaming Eagles finished 12th out of 22 teams with a team score of 303 points.
Cooksey, who finished the 6k race in 22 minutes, 00.23 seconds, becomes the second in school history to capture the women’s cross country regional championship and advances to the NCAA II Championships.
Senior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) earned All-Region honors for the second straight season, but his eighth-place finish was not enough to advance the USI men’s team to nationals. Schwartz finished the 10k race in 32 minutes, 31.51 seconds as the men finished eighth out of 19 teams with a team score of 198 points.
USI will host the NCAA Division II National Championships November 20 on the USI Cross Country Course. The men’s race begins at noon (CST), while the women’s race is slated for a 1:15 p.m. (CST) start.
