Eagles post three provisional qualifiers in outdoor-opener

CARBONDALE, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field team posted three NCAA II provisional qualifying times in its outdoor season-opener Saturday at the Saluki Spring Classic at Lew Hartzog Stadium.
Senior Crystal Stock (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) finished second in the 5,000 meters with a provisional qualifying time of 17 minutes, 35.45 seconds, while junior Abby Boberg (Bicknell, Indiana) posted a provisional qualifying mark of five feet, seven inches to finish second in the high jump. Sophomore Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, posting a provisional qualifying time of 11 minutes, 5.07 seconds.
The Screaming Eagles finished eighth in the women’s competition with a score of 23 points, while they finished seventh in the men’s competition with a score of 14.5 points.
Freshman Scott Forbey (Washington, Indiana) led the men’s squad with a fourth-place finish in the high jump, leaping six feet, 2.75 inches. He also finished sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 13 feet, 5.25 inches. Senior Zach Toothman (Tell City, Indiana) also posted a top five finish, placing fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10 minutes, 8.46 seconds.
The Eagles will return to action April 1-2 when they compete in the Gatorade Classic in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
