Rayman will run for Eagles in 2005-06
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men’s cross country/track and field team announced that Joe Rayman (West Lafayette, Indiana) has signed a national letter of intent to compete for Head Coach Mike Hillyard’s Screaming Eagles in 2005-06.
Rayman, a senior at West Lafayette High School, earned 10 varsity letters in cross country, soccer, and track. He earned All-State honors in cross country as a senior this past fall and was a four-time All-Conference performer in the same sport. He qualified for state three times.
In track, Rayman is currently a three-time All-Conference honoree and has run the 3,200 meters in a personal-best nine minutes, 28 seconds. He also earned All-Area and All-Conference honors on the soccer field.
His efforts have led WLHS’s cross country team to four conference titles as well as a sectional and semi-state championship in 2003. He also helped lead WLHS’s soccer team to a sectional and regional championship in 2003 and its track and field team to three conference titles.
A sectional and regional champion in cross country, Rayman set a school-record in the 5k, running the course in 15 minutes, 41 seconds.
“Joe will make an immediate impact on our program,” Hillyard said. “He was a multiple-sport athlete in high school, which means he has only put a portion of his time and effort toward running until now.
“The results that he has produced have been impressive and we are anxious to see what he is capable of doing as a full-time runner in a competitive environment,” Hillyard continued. “Joe will be among the best newcomers in the GLVC.”
