Women's track & field fourth, men fifth at league meet

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field team scored 93 points and finished fourth at the GLVC Outdoor Championships Saturday, while the men’s squad racked up 53 points for a fifth-place showing during the two-day meet.
Sophomore Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles’ women’s squad with a pair of GLVC titles in the 5,000 meters and the 3,000-meter steeple chase. Junior Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) won the 3,000 meters and finished second in the 800 meters, while sophomore Candace Perry (Anderson, Indiana) was first in the long jump with a conference-record leap of 20 feet, 4.50 inches.
Burgin and Cooksey each earned two All-GLVC honors, while Perry and seniors Crystal Stock (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) and Laura Helhowski (Hebron, Indiana) each earned All-League honors.
The men were led by junior sprinter Brad Orndorff (Greenfield, Indiana) and freshman jumper Scott Forbey (Washington, Indiana). Orndorff was second in the 110-meter hurdles, while Forbey was second in the high jump. Both earned All-Conference honors.
The Eagles will compete at the NCAA II Outdoor Championships in Abilene, Texas, May 26-28.
