Eagle runners ready to take on state schools
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men’s and women’s cross country teams will race against the rest of the colleges and universities from the state of Indiana when they compete in the 67th annual Indiana Intercollegiate Friday in Bloomington, Indiana.
The event will feature three races, starting with the open race at 3:30 p.m., the women’s 6k at 4:30 p.m., and the men’s 8k at 5:15 p.m. A total of 28 women’s teams and 29 men’s teams will be represented at the meet on Friday.

USI’s men, who won the Little State competition in 2002 and 2003, finished third in the Little State competition and seventh overall a year ago. Junior

Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) will lead this year’s squad as the Eagles try to capture their 15th Little State title since the program’s inaugural season in 1979.
Alvarez was the GLVC’s Runner of the Week after winning the University of Evansville Early Bird Invitational in record-setting time a week ago, while Davis, the GLVC’s top returning runner in 2005, was fourth at UE.
The women’s squad was second in last season’s Little State competition and 8th in the overall competition. The Screaming Eagles have won seven Little State titles since 1995, including 2002 and 2003, and eight overall.

Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) and junior
Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) lead the women’s squad. Cooksey, the GLVC’s Runner of the Week a week ago, also won the UE Early Bird Invitational in record-setting time, while Burgin was third in the meet.
The Indiana Intercollegiate will be the second of only four regular-season meets the Eagles will compete in prior to the GLVC Championships on October 22 in Rensselaer, Indiana. USI will compete in the Loyola Lakefront Classic in Chicago October 1 and at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Illinois, October 8.
