Eagles sending three to NCAA II Outdoor Nationals
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men's and women's track and field teams are sending three competitors to the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships.
Senior Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) will compete in the men's 800 meters, while senior Crystal Stock (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) will compete in the women's 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Junior Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) will compete in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
This marks the second straight national meet that Davis will run the 800 meters in. He earned All-America status with his fifth-place performance at the NCAA II Indoor Championships this past March.
Davis, who is seeded 14th with his time of one minute, 51.54 seconds, is making his second trip to outdoor nationals after competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as a junior in 2004.
Stock, an All-American in the 3,000 meters as a junior in 2005, is seeded fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of nine minutes, 48.22 seconds and 12th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17 minutes, 8.67 seconds.
This is Stock's fourth straight trip to an NCAA II Indoor/Outdoor Championship meet. She was an All-American in the indoor season in 2005 when she helped USI's distance medley relay team to a fifth-place performance at the national championships.
Burgin is making her second straight trip to the NCAA II Outdoor Championships after finishing 15th in the steeplechase last season. She is seeded ninth in this year's field with a time of 10 minutes, 59.08 seconds.
Like Stock, Burgin also earned All-America status with USI's fifth-place finish in the DMR at the NCAA II Indoor Championships in 2005. She is making her fifth-consecutive NCAA II National Championship appearance after qualifying for both the indoor and outdoor championships in 2005 as well as the cross country and indoor championships this year.
The NCAA II Outdoor Championships are May 25-27 in Emporia, Kansas. The prelims for the women's steeplechase and the 3,000 meters are May 25 at 5:50 and 6:45 p.m., respectively, while the prelims of the men's 800 meters are May 26 at 6:15 p.m.
