#23 Eagle runners ready for NCAA II Championship run
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The No. 23 University of Southern Indiana men's cross country team is looking to qualify for the NCAA II Championships for the second straight season when it competes at the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Championships Saturday at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Somers, Wisconsin.
USI is coming off its second straight GLVC championship and third in the last four seasons. The Screaming Eagles must finish in the top five at the regional championships in order to qualify for the NCAA II Championships, which will be held in Pensacola, Florida, as part of the NCAA II Fall Sports Festival November 18.
Teams that are in the running to finish in the top five at the NCAA II Great Lakes Region Championships include USI, No. 4 Grand Valley State University, No. 9 Wayne State University, No. 19 Saginaw Valley State University, No. 24 Hillsdale College, and Lewis University.
All-GLVC performers Paul Jellema (Dyer, Indiana) and Tim Sirbek (Hammond, Indiana) will lead the men's squad into Saturday's meet. Jellema was second in the conference championships, while Sirbek was eighth at the league meet.
The men's 10k race is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
