Jellema earns GLVC honors

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana senior
Paul Jellema (Dyer, Indiana) has been selected as the GLVC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week following his performance in the Screaming Eagles' second-place finish at the season-opening Stegemoller Classic this past weekend.
Jellema, a four-time All-American, ran the fastest 6k time in the GLVC as he finished with a mark of 18 minutes, 11 seconds.
The Eagles finished the Stegemoller Classic with 43 points behind Jellema's performance. Junior
Tim Sirbek (Hammond, Indiana) aided the Eagles' cause with a sixth-place finish, while seniors
Tristan Mannix (Crothersville, Indiana) and
Rey Alvarez (Danville, Indiana) were eighth and 10th, respectively. Sophomore
Matt Zielske (Elkhart, Indiana) rounded out USI's top five with a 15th-place showing.
USI, which is currently ranked 20th in the USTFCCCA Top 25 poll and fifth in the Great Lakes Region, returns to action September 14 when it competes in the Indiana Intercollegiate in West Lafayette, Indiana.
