Jellema leads Eagles to Little State title

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.—Senior
Paul Jellema (Dyer, Indiana) led the No. 11 University of Southern Indiana men's cross country team to a first-place finish in the Little State competition of the Indiana Intercollegiate Friday. USI, which finished fourth overall, finished with 55 total points in the Little State competition.
The finish marks the first time since 2003 that the Screaming Eagles have won the Little State title.
In addition to the team title, Jellema finished first in the Little State competition and second overall. It also is the first time since 2003 that the Eagles have had a runner win the Little State crown and the highest overall finish by a USI men's runner since Elly Rono captured the overall title in 1997.

Rey Alvarez (Danville, Indiana) also had a solid race as he finished sixth in the Little State competition and 22nd overall.
USI—which was without junior
Tim Sirbek (Hammond, Indiana), who was out with a leg injury—returns to action September 29 when it competes in the Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
