Eagles move up in national rankings
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men's and women's cross country teams each moved up a spot in the latest USTFCCCA Top 25 Polls. USI's men moved to ninth, while the women moved to 24th.
After finishing eighth out of 36 teams at the Greater Louisville Classic, the Screaming Eagles' men are riding a wave of momentum as they prepare for their final tune-up prior to the GLVC Championships on October 20.
Senior Paul Jellema (Dyer, Indiana) continues to lead the men's squad. Jellema was 19th out of 310 runners at the Greater Louisville Classic with a conference-best 8k time of 24 minutes, 34.57 seconds.
USI was one of three GLVC teams in this week's rankings as the University of Missouri-Rolla was ranked 15th and Northern Kentucky University was ranked 21st.
The women's squad is coming off a solid outing that saw them place 17th out of 28 teams. Sophomore Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana), who is the reigning GLVC Runner of the Week after she finished 32nd in a field of 239 runners at the Greater Louisville Classic, continues to lead an injury-riddled squad. Ballinger has been USI's top runner in all three meets this season.
USI was one of two GLVC teams in this week's rankings as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside was ranked eighth.
The Eagles return to action Friday when they compete in the Millikin Challenge in Decatur, Illinois.
