Jellema finishes 11th at USA 8k Championships

NEW YORK, N.Y.—Former University of Southern Indiana men's cross country/track and field standout
Paul Jellema (Dyer, Indiana) finished 11th out of 41 competitors Saturday morning at the USA Men's 8k Championships in New York City's Central Park.
Jellema, who is currently running for the Michigan-based Hanson-Brooks Distance Project, was the GLVC Runner of the Year this past fall when he led the Screaming Eagles to their third straight league title and record 15th overall. He earned All-America honors on the cross country course this fall before exhausting his eligibility in December.
Overall, Jellema earned five All-America honors in a USI uniform, including three on the track last spring.
His time of 23 minutes, 21 seconds Saturday morning was less than 40 seconds off the winning pace, set by Reebok's Jorge Torres. Jellema's finish also led the Hanson-Brooks team Saturday.
