Mannix, Goodman pace Eagles in outdoor opener

ST. LOUS, Mo.—Senior Tristan Mannix (Crothersville, Indiana) and freshman David Goodman (Valparaiso, Indiana) paced the University of Southern Indiana men's track and field team in its outdoor opener this weekend at the Washington University Invitational.

Mannix finished second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14 minutes, 45.29 second, while Goodman was fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14 minutes, 57.52 seconds.

As a team, the Screaming Eagles finished in a tie for 15th with 15 points and produced four top-10 finishes, including an eight-place showing by their 4x100-meter relay team and a surprise eighth-place finish by freshman Paul Cummings (Bargersville, Indiana) in the javelin. Cummings tossed the javelin for the first time in his career, recording a mark of 142 feet, 5.0 inches.

The Eagles return to action Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Gatorade Classic in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
