BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana men's track and field freshman
David Goodman (Valparaiso, Indiana) improved his NCAA II provisional qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday night at the Billy Hayes Invitational.
Goodman finished fourth in the event with a season-best time of nine minutes, 18.13 seconds. His time will put him on the bubble to qualify for the NCAA II Outdoor Championships, which are May 22-24 in Walnut, California.
Including Goodman's finish, the Screaming Eagles had three runners in the top 10 of the steeplechase Friday night. Senior
Rob Roads (West Terre Haute, Indiana) and sophomore
Brandon Campbell (Portage, Indiana) were seventh and ninth, respectively, but neither were able to reach provisional marks.
Goodman, the GLVC's Freshman of the Year in indoor track as well as the co-Freshman of the Year in outdoor track, will have to wait for the final declarations to be made next week to see if he will make the trip to nationals.
