USI takes third at UE Invitational

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's cross country team placed third in the University of Evansville Invitational Saturday at the UE Cross Country Course. The Screaming Eagles finished the invitational with 68 points, 37 behind first place Southern Illinois University (31) and six points behind second place Belmont University (62).
USI, which defeated 12 Division I teams in the invitational, was led by freshman Dustin Emerick (Elmwood, Illinois). Emerick placed 11th in the 8k race with a time of 25 minutes, 5.64 seconds and finished 39 seconds off the pace set by race winner Dan Dunbar. Dunbar took the championship with a time of 24 minutes, 26.08 seconds.
The USI freshman was joined in the top 20 by senior Bryan Phillips (Kokomo, Indiana), who was 14th with a time of 25 minutes, 6.77 seconds; freshman David Goodman (Valparaiso, Indiana), who was 18th with a time of 25 minutes, 12.96 seconds; and sophomore Andrew Dixon (Petersburg, Indiana), who was 19th with a time of 25 minutes, 13.55 seconds.
The next action for the Eagles will be October 25 in the GLVC Championships. The league championship will be hosted by Missouri University Science & Technology in Rolla, Missouri.
