Goodman leads Eagles at Grand Valley State
Sophomore David Goodman
(Valparaiso, Indiana) recorded an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 meters Friday night to lead the University of Southern Indiana men's indoor track and field team at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet this weekend.
Goodman finished 13th in the 5,000-meter invitational with a season-best time of 14 minutes, 40.77 seconds. He also helped lead the Screaming Eagles' distance medley relay team to a sixth-place finish, one of four top-10 performances for USI.
In addition to the DMR, which was comprised of Goodman, senior Tom Cunningham
(Bridgeport, Illinois), and juniors Andrew Menner
(Greenwood, Indiana) and Matt Zielske
(Elkhart, Indiana), the Eagles got a seventh-place showing from freshman John Latta
(Brazil, Indiana) in the 5,000-meter open.
Cunningham also was eighth in the 200-meter invitational with a school-record time of 22.21 seconds, while Zielske finished eighth in the mile invitational with a time of four minutes, 18.22 seconds.
USI returns to action February 27-28 when it competes at the GLVC Championships in Crawfordsville, Indiana, though a few runners may compete as early as next weekend in a meet to be determined.
