Cunningham, Goodman pace Eagles in outdoor opener

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Senior sprinter Tom Cunningham (Bridgeport, Illinois) and sophomore distance runner David Goodman (Valparaiso, Indiana) posted first-place finishes to lead the University of Southern Indiana men's track and field team to a 10th-place finish in its outdoor season-opener this weekend at the Washington University Invitational.

Cunningham set two school records Saturday as he finished first in the 100 meters with a time of 10.72 seconds and fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.80 seconds.

Goodman won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of nine minutes, 21.47 seconds.
In all, the Screaming Eagles had five top-five performances, including a pair of second-place efforts, as they finished the two-day meet with 46 points.
Freshman
Dustin Emerick (Elmwood, Illinois) also recorded an NCAA II provisional qualify time of 14 minutes, 41.33 seconds as he finished second in the 5,000 meters. Junior
Brandon Campbell (Portage, Indiana) missed a provisional qualifying time in the steeplechase by less than two seconds as he finished second in the event with a time of nine minutes, 27.13 seconds.
USI returns to action April 16-18 when it competes at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California, and the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana. Only a small group of runners will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays.
