USI cross country sweeps Stegemoller Classic
The University of Southern Indiana men’s and women’s cross country teams both claimed championships in the Stegemoller Classic at the USI Cross Country Course on Saturday morning. The men’s team totaled 15 points, claiming the top six finishers, and was 45 points better than second place Oakland City University. The women’s team scored 26 points, defeating Vincennes University by 12 points with four of the top 10 finishers.
The men’s team was led by sophomore Matt Cronch (Valparaiso, Indiana), who was nearly one minute faster than the rest of the field with an 8k 27:55. Teammate Mile Krieger (Floyds Knobs, Indiana), a junior, took second with a time of 28:40.
The women’s team was led by freshman Casey Schneider (New Salisbury, Indiana), who was second overall with a 5k time of 20:52. Teammate Tricia Tinius (Floyds Knobs, Indiana), a sophomore, was second on the team and fourth overall with a time of 22:08.
The next meet for the cross country teams will be Saturday, October 20, in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships. This season’s championships will be at Joe Creason Park in Louisville, Kentucky, and hosted by Bellarmine University. The last time the men’s team won the championship was in 1991 in Louisville.
