USI menís cross-country finishes second at GLVC Championships
Byrne wins individual title
The University of Southern Indiana menís cross country team finished second at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships this morning in Louisville, Kentucky. The Screaming Eagles finished third in last seasonís GLVC Championships.
Sophomore Joey Byrne (Georgetown, Kentucky) ran away with the individual championship after coming in with the top time of 32:35.6. Fellow classmate Doug Schwartz (Centralia) came in at seventh place with a time 33:27.5 while junior Mark Thurner (Hebron, Indiana) finished 10th with a time of 33:39.6 All three earned All-GLVC honors.
A pair of freshman, Chris Swisher (Milan, Indiana) and Danny Fisher (Nashville, Indiana), just missed All-Conference honors. Swisher finished 11th with a time 33:43.8 while Fisher followed with a time of 33:44.8.
Sophomores Matt Cronch (Valparaiso, Indiana) and Dustin Blink (Cedar Lake, Indiana) rounded out the top seven for USI. Cronch finished 17th with a time of 34:09.9 while Blink finished 20th with a time of 34:21.8.
Lewis University finished first after its runners placed second, third, fourth, and eighth.
The Eagles, who came into the weekend ranked 2nd in the Great Lakes Region and 13th nationally, will turn their attention to the NCAA Division II GL Regional meet, which is hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (Kenosha, Wisconsin) on Saturday, November 3.
