O’Brien signs with USI golf
The University of Southern Indiana men’s golf team announced the signing of Ted O’Brien to a national letter of intent for the 2004-05 season. O’Brien is the sixth player to sign with USI Head Coach Matt Scheessele.
O’Brien comes to USI from Heritage Hills High School where he lettered in golf, basketball, soccer, and cross country. His 14 letters in the four sports were the most ever earned by an HHHS student athlete.
The 2004 Wendy’s High School Heisman national nominee earned an appearance in the Indiana State Finals and was the sectional champion with a record score of 69 during the spring. O’Brien also earned a trip to the state finals in 2003 and was named All-Conference as a golfer during the 2001 and 2004 seasons.
During his tenure at HHHS, he helped guide the Patriots to a golf sectional championship in 2004 a basketball sectional championship in 2003 and to a regional and three sectional cross country championships. The HHHS cross country team also advanced to the 2003 semi-state and state finals.
In amateur golf, O’Brien was the runner-up in the Mt. Dew Tour in 2003 with a scoring average of 72. He also qualified for the Optimist International Golf Tournament in West Palm Beach, Florida, three times since 1999.
“Ted is a tremendous athlete and a proven winner,” said Scheessele. “The 2004-05 golf season will be his first year to concentrate primarily on his golf ability. I have no doubt that Ted will be a tremendous asset to the USI golf team.”
