USI’s O’Brien wins NKU Invitational
PERRY PARK, KY –University of Southern Indiana men’s golf freshman Ted O’Brien (Santa Claus, Indiana) won the Northern Kentucky University Invitational with a four-under 68 in the final round. O’Brien had a two-day total of 144 (76-68), one stroke better than the University of Indianapolis’ Chris Clemons.
O’Brien’s 68 was one stroke shy of tying the USI single-round record of 67, set by Brad Noel at the USI/UE Fall Invitational in 1990. The individual championship also is the first by a USI player since the Bellarmine Invitational in the spring of 2002.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles finished fourth despite shooting 300 as a team for at two-day total of 607 (307-300). The 300 was the best round by a USI since shooting a 298 at the USI Invitational in 2002.
The Eagles will resume action September 20-21 in the Butler Invitational at the Eagle Creek Golf Course in Indianapolis, Indiana.
