O'Brien named GCAA All-American Scholar
EVANSVILLE, Ind. University of Southern Indiana junior men's golfer Ted O'Brien (Santa Claus, Indiana) was named an NCAA Division II All-American Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America. To be eligible, a player must be a junior or senior with a minimum 3.2 grade point average and have a 78.0 stroke average or better.
O'Brien, who becomes the fifth USI player all-time to earn this award, was sixth on the team with a 77.4 stroke average in 19 rounds over 10 tournaments. His 77.4 average was just 1.4 strokes off the pace set by team leader Blake Hilliard (Olney, Illinois), who had a 76.0 average.
The junior social science major shot his best round of the year at the GOLFEXCHANGE.com Classic with a team-best 69 in the first round. He finished the tournament with a 36-hole score of 145 (69-76). O'Brien's best showing of the year was a fifth at the Kentucky Wesleyan College Invitational.
