USI men's golf overcomes poor first round to place ninth

O'FALLON, Mo. The University of Southern men's golf team placed ninth at the Riverman Invitational in an up-and-down performance. The tournament was hosted by the University of Missouri-St. Louis at Winghaven Country Club in O'Fallon, Missouri.
After tying for 11th with a first round 322, the Screaming Eagles improved 27 strokes in the second with a 295 in jumping to eighth. The 295 was the Eagles' second best round as a team this fall.
USI fell back to ninth in the final round with a 308.
The Eagles' three-round total of 925 was 43 strokes off the pace set by tournament champion Drury University. Drury recorded an 18-over par 882 (294-287-301).
USI was led individually by freshman Matt Hancock (Ft. Branch, Indiana), who tied for 14th with a three-round 225 (79-73-73). Hancock's two rounds of 73 in the second and third rounds matched his season-best.
Hancock was followed junior Keaton Bradshaw (Carmi, Illinois), who tied for 31st with a 231 (80-74-77), and senior Blake Hilliard (Olney, Illinois), who tied for 55th with a 238 (80-73-85).
Seniors Nick Frazer (Evansville, Indiana) and Ted O'Brien (Santa Claus, Indiana) rounded out the Eagle players. Frazer tied for 57th with a 239 (83-75-81), while O'Brien tied for 61st with a 241 (84-80-77).
The Eagles complete the fall portion of the season at the Skyhawk Fall Classic, hosted by the University of Tennessee-Martin at the Paris Landing State Park in Paris Landing, Tennessee.
