GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's golf team finished sixth at the Northern Kentucky University Invitational Monday in Georgetown, Kentucky. All 36 holes of the six-team tournament were played on Monday at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course after Sunday's first round was postponed due to high winds.
The Screaming Eagles finished the two-round marathon on Monday with a 593 (297-296), 29 strokes off the pace of NKU's tournament winning 564 (284-280). USI has started the year with four straight rounds under 300 as a team for the first time since the end of the 2005-06 season.
USI was led by sophomore
Michael Koronkiewicz (Goshen, Indiana), who finished sixth with a two-round 143 (70-73). Koronkiewicz's first round 70 and the 36-hole 143 were career-bests.
Koronkiewicz was followed by freshmen
Chris Taylor (Linton, Indiana) and
Blake Zeller (Evansville, Indiana), who tied for 19th. Taylor recorded his 150 with a 74-76, while Blake earned his by posting a 78-72.
The next tournament for the Eagles will be September 21-22 at the NCAA Midwest Region Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State University at Hawk's Head Golf Course in South Haven, Michigan.
