USI ties for 9th at The Jewell

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's golf team tied for ninth in the The Jewell at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Gerogetown, Kentucky. USI shot a two-day team 586 (292-294) to tie Drury for ninth and finish 21 strokes off the pace set by tournament champion Ferris State University.
FSU posted an 11-under par 565 (285-280) to win the tournament by two strokes. Grand Valley State University (284-283) and the University of Indianapolis (283-284) tied for second with each shooting a two-day 567.
USI's 586 was the best two-round tournament of the year for the squad and marked the third straight round that the Screaming Eagles had broken 300 as a team.
Leading the way for the Eagles was sophomore
Matt Hancock (Ft. Branch, Indiana), who tied for 22nd with a two-round 145 (70-75). The 70 in the first round and the tournament score of 145 tied a career-bests for Hancock.
Following Hancock on the USI squad was junior
Aaron Anderson (Elizabethtown, Kentucky) and senior
Keaton Bradshaw (Carmi, Illinois), who tied for 48th with identical scores of 148. Anderson posted his 145 by shooting 72-76, while Bradshaw recorded a 73-75.
The five USI players were rounded out by freshman
Chris Taylor (Linton, Indiana) and junior
Drew Mathews (New Harmony, Indiana), who tied for 41st and 49th, respectively. Taylor had a two-day 149 (78-71), while Mathews finished with a 150 (77-73).
The next action for the Screaming Eagles is GLVC Championship on April 9-10 at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Indiana).
